Hospital Bag Checklist

9/30/2018

You’re finally ready to pack your hospital bag!  So where to start?  Here are a few suggestions, but remember you’re partner will likely be carrying all the bags when you arrive in active labor, so don’t go overboard!

  • Photo id, insurance info, hospital forms
  • Birth plan
  • Cord blood info
  • Labor clothes.  You’re welcome to wear whatever you want so if wearing a hospital gown doesn’t sound right for you, bring an oversized tshirt, a sports bra or your own robe (that you don’t mind getting messy in)
  • A favorite pillow or blanket can give you some comfort while away from home
  • Music
  • Cell phone charger
  • Camera
  • Chapstick and moisturizing lotion – hospitals can be very dry
  • Eyeglasses (if you wear contacts)
  • Snacks that don’t smell!  Bagels, granola bars, nuts, etc.
  • Breath mints (need I say more…)
  • Drinks!  Staying hydrated is super important.  Coconut water, water, Gatorade, juice etc.
  • Hair ties
  • Maternity clothes to wear home
  • Nursing bra
  • “Coming home” outfit for baby
  • Slippers or warm socks
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, contact solution).  Some people enjoy bringing their favorite soap or favorite smelling shampoo/conditioner
  • Any daily prescription medication
  • Journal and pen to track key milestones
